I had a wicked little gig for International Womens Day earlier in the month, where I was asked to come and MD a DIY music session to follow screenings of the seminal film ‘Stories from the She Punks’. SUCH a good night. Gina Birch from the raincoats made it to document and celebrate the many women player and artists who were so crucial to the punk narrative.
My role was to invite the women and men from the local area to join with me in creating some music of their own, strictly according to the punk ethos, of course. We had a brilliant time, and I’ve heard that 4 of them have already gone out and either bought drumkits, or started lessons. Perfect, and inspiring.
Thank you women (mostly) of Folkestone for being so up for it. Also many thanks to the Quarterhouse theatre and the Creative Foundation.
