This day long workshop uses techniques and musical games that encourage you to interact playfully with your own musical boundaries and aspirations. We look at how singers, musicians and performers from all backgrounds and levels can best make original music of their own minds, in real time.

The workshops will improve your improvisation, technical practice and composition, giving you new ways to interact with and practice music, an increased connection with your musicality in performance, and an introduction to to ensemble music devising.
You will play with excellent musicians, expand your musical limits in a low risk and welcoming group environment, and enjoy social musicality, renewing your enthusiasm for music making and improving your musicianship.

Who is it for?

The morning session is open access and is for anyone looking to extend their musicianship, confidence and skill level in improvising and performance.

The afternoon is for those singers, musicians and performers with 1 year plus experience on their instrument. Great CPD for Music therapists, teachers, actor musicians, orchestral and big band players, professional musicians, students, and adventurous amateurs.

We will use techniques from The Minds Ear Orchestra to improve your aural skills and invention, create new pieces in the moment and expand your comfortable playing zone.

What will we be doing?

Lots of singing, playing by ear, instrumental inventing, drumming and games for aural skills and sonic memory. There will be an emphasis on devising and composing, looking at improvising, riff creation, circular patterns and drones, directing and harmonising, and letting ideas develop in a group space. We intend that you should go home comfortable and confident with vocal and rhythmic expression, some new ideas, and the joy of a fun day making a lot of music.
