By The Gala Performance of ‘Out of Place’ took place at the Actors Church on the 3rd – huge congratulations to Nicola Burnett Smith, who did all the organising and hair pulling required to make the night a huge success.
We have been working towards this very special event for some time, starting way way back in October, when there was an open call for poetry submissions on the subject of displacement. I was one of a small group of composers who chose their winners, which we then went on to base our pieces around.
What was super exciting about this project was the sheer range of material presented- the brief being entirely open other then the pre-requisite that the only instruments we could use were those played by the other composers.
Each composer ran two sessions to introduce and workshop their material with the other participants, and it’s been hugely fun to play and create with this astonishing group of people.
