I played at Boomtown Festival last weekend, and think we may have finally reached peak brass (saxes included, soz. peak gold and silver shiny blown things) I remember wandering around Glastonbury with J last time we went together (2013 omg) and predicting brass was going to have a massive moment. saw perhaps 5 or ten medium brass bands that year. Comparably, this year at BT, brass was everywhere, even in the country roots area (where frankly, it doesn’t belong!)
I’d like to tell you exactly who I saw, but I was busy dancing and didn’t check any names. Saw some genuinely good funk jams, complete with classic 3 piece horns. If you know me at all, you’ll know how low my tolereance for bad funk jams is, so this is worth shouting about.
In ode to my weekend, then, here are my 5 BEST EVER BRASS BAND COVERS (of the week)
Hackney Colliery Band – Prodigy Medley
The Hot 8 Brass Band – ‘Sexual Healing
The original and the best, from mr holland’s opus louie louie
The Pinettes Brass Band – Who you gon call
Perhaps Contraption – National Anthem (Rhead)
